On Thursday, the Cleveland Police Department arrested 32-year-old Tavoris Griffin and charged him with assault on an officer, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Griffin has most recently served as a patrol officer with the Rosedale Police Department.

According to Cleveland Police Chief Charles “Buster” Bingham, Griffin was arrested following the execution of a warrant by the U.S. Marshal Service.

“We were working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals executing a warrant on someone they were looking for from Memphis,” the chief explained. The arrest took place on Aloe Street early Thursday.

Upon arrival, Bingham said Griffin began running away from the officers and said he was throwing items from his pockets. Police later picked up marijuana and cocaine and charged Griffin with possession with intent.

Bingham said that Griffin fought with officers but was later apprehended and transported to the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility. His bond was later set at $150,000.

The case is still being investigated in a joint operation by the Cleveland Police Department and U.S. Marshal Service and may lead to further charges.

The Marshals did apprehend their suspect, who is unknown at this time, during the execution of the search warrant.
